An increasing number of studies, primarily focusing on Anglo-Saxon countries, have attempted to quantify and contextualise women's contributions to the development of economic ideas and thought, highlighting their distinctive approaches in terms of innovation, research topics, and methodologies. However, the Italian context remains poorly defined. The Echiw (Economic Thought of Italian Women, 1750-1999) research project aims to document the economic ideas of as many Italian women as possible, analyzing their impact on economic culture, politics, facts, and theory, as well as their international connections. To this end, the first-ever census of these women has been conducted. Recognising the contributions of Italian women to the evolution of economic thought and ideas also leads to a critical rethinking of the economic thought canon and the methodologies used, which systematically ignore or neglect women's contributions.
